Coconut Creek operates under a Commission-City Manager form of government. There are five Commissioners on the City Commission. Although each Commissioner represents a specific district within the City, they are elected at large. Each member serves a four-year term.

The Mayor and Vice Mayor are selected by the Commissioners from amongst themselves and they serve in that position for a period of one year. The City Commission also appoints the City Manager, who serves as the chief administrator of the City government.

Commission meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 7:00 PM at City Hall (4800 West Copans Road).
