The Criminal Investigations Division’s primary responsibility is to investigate all crimes occurring within the City of Coconut Creek.  Additionally, it focuses on crime prevention with emphasis on a proactive approach. 

The detectives work closely with the Patrol Division and Community Involvement Unit to help reduce burglaries, auto thefts, and gang activities. Detectives are responsible for such tasks as information development, interviews, interrogations, surveillance, and the collection, preservation, and use of physical evidence.

In order to successfully prosecute criminals, a Crime Scene Investigations section was started. The crime scene specialist/forensic artist has received specialized training in the areas of crime scene processing, crime scene photography, latent fingerprints, the detection of gunshot residue, the detection of forensic bodily fluids, and forensic imaging.

Included under its command are the Victim Advocate Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Detectives, and Internal Affairs. The division is commanded by a lieutenant and includes a sergeant, corporal, nine detectives, two crime scene personnel, one victim advocate, one analyst, and a staff assistant.
