Bulk must be placed out before 7:00 AM on the assigned collection dates.

The collection does not apply to commercial or non-residential properties, which must provide their own bulk trash hauling.

Single-family residences must place their trash within five feet of their curb away from utility poles, fire hydrants, mailboxes, or any other obstructions. Items must be stacked neatly at the curb.

Multi-family residences are to place their trash at a location designated by their property manager.

The removal of hurricane debris will take precedence over bulk waste collection. During hurricane season, once a hurricane warning has been issued, bulk waste services will be suspended.

Bulk waste includes household items such as furniture, mattresses, appliances, carpets, padding, fencing, and other bulky non-hazardous household items. It also includes yard waste such as tree trimmings, lumber and metal poles. Broken glass will not be collected unless it is placed in a dry, sturdy container, sealed, and labeled “glass”.

Loose material, such as leaves, must be contained in plastic bags or garbage cans. Do not place trash in cardboard boxes or paper bags as these containers tend to break open when wet

Lawn equipment drained of oil and gasoline will be accepted.

No special bundling of bulk waste is required. However, individual pieces of tree waste shall not be more than 6 inches in diameter and longer than 6 feet, and not over 50 pounds in weight. The weight limit is for yard waste only.

What NOT to do

Bulk waste items set out in a disorderly or hazardous way will not be collected. Do not place at the curb more than 24 hours prior to collection day. Unacceptable items will not be moved to collect acceptable items. Bulk waste items set out for collection must not be placed next to a mailbox, fire hydrant, cable box, utility pole, fence, car, or any other obstruction. Do not place items in front of a vacant lot—they will not be collected. Do not stack under tree limbs or structures that may interfere with the collection truck lift arm.

Items not acceptable for bulk pickup will be tagged by the hauler to inform resident why it was not acceptable.

Bulk Waste Tips

Always consider child safety when leaving items out for collection

Plan your major yard work or garage cleanouts around bulk waste collection days. Broken glass will not be collected unless it is placed in a dry, sturdy container, sealed, and labeled “glass”.

Garbage Collection and Debris Cleanup After a Storm

  • Garbage collection will resume as soon as possible after a severe storm or hurricane.
  • To prevent the spread of disease, garbage collection will be given priority over debris cleanup.
  • Following Hurricane Wilma, residential garbage service was suspended for 2 days, recycling service was suspended for 1 week, and bulk waste collection was suspended for 1 month.
  • It is imperative that garbage and waste be properly separated after a storm.
    • Household Garbage
    • Vegetative Debris
    • Construction & Demolition Materials (C&D)
    • White Goods (appliances)

If not properly separated, pickup may be refused and disposal and related expenses will become the responsibility of the resident.
