Dearing Resigns as Creek Commissioner
 December 18, 2007
During a Commission meeting held on December 13, 2007, Coconut Creek Commissioner Ron Dearing, Jr., District E, announced that he submitted his resignation to the City Commission and City Manager on December 4, 2007 with an effective date of December 14, 2007. After discussion with the Commission at that meeting, the resignation date was amended to March 14, 2008. According to the Coconut Creek City Charter, when such a vacancy occurs, the City Commission must make an appointment within 30 days, in this case, by April 13th.
Any resident of District E, who has been a resident for a minimum of twelve months and who desires to submit a letter of interest and resume, may do so during the month of February. District E encompasses areas north of the Sawgrass Expressway with the exception of a small portion of the City east of Lyons Road. “With some recent decisions on the horizon both personally and professionally and after careful consideration with my family, I am tendering my resignation. Calendar year 2008 will, in my opinion, be a milestone in the history of this city. I believe it is only appropriate for me to step down if I am unable to take part in the decision making process for the entire year. I personally appreciate the opportunity to serve and I feel as though the time I have had on the dais has made a difference as small as it may have been,” stated Commissioner Dearing.
Dearing was elected to the Commission in March 2007. He has served on numerous Boards and committees, including City of Coconut Creek’s Environmental Board and Planning & Zoning Board. Professionally, Dearing is a business consultant, with a brand focus on developing and executing company strategy. He presently serves as the Consultant CEO with the National Safety Council of South Florida, a non-profit safety, education/training and advocacy organization.
Mayor Lou Sarbone, as well as the additional four commissioners, acknowledged Dearing’s contributions to the city while on the Commission. “Ron brought a professional demeanor and special attention to details. The Commission wishes him much success in all future endeavors,” said Sarbone.
