Waldman Named as New Mayor, Tooley Vice Mayor

Jim Waldman was named Mayor of the City of Coconut Creek during a special ceremony held during a Commission meeting on March 23, 2006. Becky Tooley was named Vice Mayor. Each March, the Commission selects two members to serve for one year as Mayor and Vice Mayor.
Mayor Waldman is currently in his ninth year on the Coconut Creek City Commission, having been first elected in 1993. He has been a practicing attorney for nearly 20 years, and is General Counsel to Keiser College with campuses in Florida, China and Moldova. He is also a candidate for the Florida State Legislature in District 95 which encompasses parts of Coconut Creek, Margate, Coral Springs, North Lauderdale, Tamarac and Pompano Beach.
He also serves on the boards of numerous organizations, including SOS Children's Village, the Broward County Resource Recovery Board, the Board of Directors of the Broward League of Cities, the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Board of Directors of the Jewish National Fund and the Board of Trustees of Everglades University. Waldman received his B.S.B.A. degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida in 1980 and earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1985 from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.
After many years as a community activist, Vice Mayor Becky Tooley was first elected to the Commission in 2001 and reelected unopposed in 2004. She represents District A which encompasses areas south of Coconut Creek Parkway. Tooley serves on the boards of numerous community boards and organizations including the Coconut Creek Women’s Club, Alzheimer’s Family Center Board of Trustees, Northwest Medical Center, Coconut Creek Democratic Club and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 157. Tooley is employed as a radiologic technologist specializing in clinical densitometry and research.
