5th Annual Free Tree Giveaway

April 22, 2005

As part of their commitment to planting and maintaining trees, the City of Coconut Creek will hold their 5th Annual Free Tree Giveaway on Saturday, April 30, 2005, from 10am to 2:00pm at City Hall. This popular event, which celebrates Arbor Day, features educational booths where residents can get information on proper tree pruning, butterfly gardening, tree care and planting, and wildlife habitat gardening.

Some of the free trees that will be available include Bald Cypress, Paradise tree, Dahoon Holly, Verawood and Japanese Fern trees. These trees are available in #7 gallon containers and stand an average of 5 -6 feet in height.

Additionally, in an effort to encourage its residents to certify their yards as Backyard Wildlife Habitats, with every free tree, the City is also giving away two native plants that will attract birds and butterflies to homeowner’s yards.

The free native plants to be given away include Jamaica caper, Simpson’s stopper, Walter’s viburnum, Beautyberry, Wild Coffee and Firebush and are available in #3 gallon and #1gallon pots.

The Free Tree Giveaway is available to all residents of the City of Coconut Creek at no charge. The trees and plants, valued between $70-$90, are available through a special program which is not funded by resident tax revenue.

For more information on the 5th Annual Free Tree Giveaway, please see the City’s website at www.creekgov.net.
