Home Maintenance Regulations

- Homes must be maintained in good repair to keep all structures free of hazards, infestation, nuisances, and unsafe or unsightly conditions. Unsightly maintenance can include paint discoloration, mold or mildew on walls or roofs. Unsafe conditions include holes or breaks in walkways or driveways.
- Excessive noise, which is plainly audible at a distance of 50 feet from where it originates, is not allowed between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
- No construction noise shall occur prior to 7:00 a.m., nor after 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; prior to 8:00 a.m. nor after 7:00 p.m. Saturdays; prior to 8:00 a.m. nor after 6:00 p.m. on Sundays and National holidays.
- The swale area, the area of land between the road and the property, is to be cleaned and mowed by the property owner. Also, swale areas shall not be paved or covered with any material other than sod. All non-living objects (such as rock gardens, concrete buttons, or pyramids) shall be prohibited in the swale area. Exception: sprinkler heads and irrigation systems that are flush, or retractable to be flush with the ground.
- Get rid of it. It is unlawful to openly store abandoned vehicles, appliances, rubbish, dead trees, building materials, or similar items. Every owner, resident or tenant of a single-family, two-family or multiple-family dwelling shall utilize the services of the City's franchise contractor for solid waste collection and disposal service.
- Grass or weeds to are not allowed to grow over six (6) inches high. Also, it is unlawful to allow any accumulation of debris or trash on vacant or occupied land.
- One personal gain sign (i.e. garage sale or home for sale) is allowed on a homeowner's property. No signs are allowed in locations such as road right-of-ways or medians, telephone poles, nailed to trees, or in public areas.
- Grass, shrubs and ground cover must be maintained in a healthy condition.
- Trees must be allowed to grow to a natural height and spread. Shaping of trees is not allowed. Removal of a tree may require a permit. For more information about tree removal, please call the Landscape Inspectors at 973-6756.
