Coconut Creek Celebrates 35th Anniversary
 January 30, 2002
In 1967, the Green Bay Packers won the first Super Bowl. “Sgt. Pepper” was released by the Beatles. “Cool Hand Luke” packed movie theatres. And in rural North Broward County, the Coconut Creek Homeowners Association voted that February to incorporate, creating the new City of Coconut Creek.
To mark this milestone, the City of Coconut Creek is inviting all to join city officials, residents and special guests as we celebrate our 35th Anniversary on February 16, 2002 at Sabal Pines Park, 5005 NW 39th Avenue. Gates open at 1 p.m.
Featured entertainment will be live music from the North Broward Preparatory School Jazz Band, local pop music group “Hot Brass Monkey” and special appearance by “Elvis.”
Headlining the event will be country music artist Collin Raye. Since 1991, Raye has had eleven #1 singles, five platinum albums and multiple nominations from the Academy of Country Music Awards. His latest CD, “Tracks” was released in 2000.
There will be games and activities for kids and adults, a red/white/blue patriotic dress up contest and food and beverages courtesy of the Winston Park Publix and Budweiser. Proceeds will benefit the Broward County March of Dimes.
Parking for this event will be available at the following locations:
• Coconut Creek Recreation Complex, 4455 Sol Press Blvd • Coconut Creek Government Center, 4800 W. Copans Road • Tradewinds Elementary School, 5400 Johnson Road • Coconut Creek High School, 1400 NW 44th Avenue |
There will be free shuttle service available from these locations to Sabal Pines Park from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There will be no coolers, umbrellas, totes or picnic baskets allowed in Sabal Pines Park or on the shuttle buses.
